Growing up in Montgomery County, Emma Rosenbaum celebrated holidays with her family but didn’t truly feel connected to Judaism until a Birthright Israel trip during college. While experiencing the magic of Shabbat in Israel, Emma realized she wanted to make Jewish tradition and community a regular part of her life. When she came back from her trip, she stayed in touch with the people she had met and started looking for other Jewish engagement opportunities.
Emma was happy to discover Etz Chaim, which she says helps her feel more connected to Jewish values. She particularly appreciates the emphasis on giving back to the community. She loves to bake, and our young professionals’ challah bake is among her favorite recent Etz Chaim experiences. Emma recalls bringing a friend to the event, who started out feeling reluctant to attend a Jewish program but ended the experience feeling overjoyed that she came.
“Etz Chaim offers space for people to gather and learn about each other. It’s very refreshing— everyone can come exactly as they are,” Emma says. She encourages other young professionals to give Etz Chaim events a try, knowing they will be as happy to discover the organization as she was.
